Great Horned Owl

This mural of a Great Horned Owl was created outside the Nocturnal House at Chhatbir Zoo with the intention of drawing attention to the often-overlooked world of nocturnal animals and birds.

Nocturnal species live most of their lives hidden from human eyes. Because they exist in darkness, their struggles, habitats, and survival challenges frequently remain unseen. This mural was conceived as a visual reminder that life does not pause when the sun sets—another world awakens.

The intense gaze of the owl in this artwork is meant to confront the viewer with a quiet question:

Are we truly aware of the lives that exist beyond our daylight world?

Owls are powerful symbols of wisdom, awareness, and silent observation. In this mural, the Great Horned Owl becomes a guardian of the night—representing all nocturnal creatures whose ecosystems are increasingly threatened by deforestation, light pollution, noise, and human expansion.

Rather than portraying the owl as aggressive or decorative, the focus is on its presence—strong, watchful, and alive. The aim is to create a moment of connection, where viewers feel curiosity, respect, and responsibility toward these species.

Created in collaboration with Chhatbir Zoo and Social Substance, this mural serves as a visual call for empathy—encouraging people to recognize that nocturnal animals and birds deserve the same care, protection, and space as those active during the day.

Great Horned Owl stands as a tribute to the unseen guardians of the night and a reminder that every creature, visible or hidden, plays a vital role in the balance of nature.
